Movie of the Year: 1975
The Taste Buds continue their journey through 1975 with The Who’s Tommy!
On a very special bonus episode of Movie of the Year, MOTY regulars Mike and Ryan invite their other two favorite people onto the show: their wives. That’s right, it’s a good old-fashioned mano y womano y mano y womano battle, and the winner gets their opinions of the movie Tommy to be the official ones. And this is going to be a brutal show because one couple really liked it, and one couple really didn’t. When the dust settles, will they move closer to the center, or will they be even further apart?
Tommy is of course based on The Who’s rock opera of the same name, which tells the story of a “deaf, dumb, and blind kid” (their words) who becomes the greatest pinball player of all time, on his way to becoming something along the lines of the next messiah, if only for a short time. On this episode, The Taste Couplez discuss if Tommy still holds up in 2021, particularly in regards to its commentary on religion and the pinball community at large. They also pick their favorite musical performances and which guest stars they liked the most. All of that, and so much more, on an all-new Movie of the Year bonus show!
