God fucking damn it, I love Say Anything to an unreasonable extent.  They broke out of the emo boom of the early 2000′s and just kept kicking ass for the better part of a decade.  Their newest album, “Anarchy, My Dear”, is no exception, as evidenced by the absurd slo-mo symbolism of the video you damn well better have just watched.  Seriously, what the balls is going on in this video?  It reminds me of watching MTV in the olden days and thinking, “I’m not sure if there’s a message here or if this is just weird for weird’s sake, but I’m down as fuck regardless.”  Also, cereal bursts into flames, which is great because it is kind of a Simpsons reference, and also that happened to me once because I can’t be trusted in a kitchen when I’m high, apparently.-KRC

This song and video are all the proof you need to know all that really matters in rap is the backbeat.  The rapping itself is acceptable and the lyrics are ok, but look at these guys.  These are straight up Canadian nerds.  They’re dressed entirely in Hot Topic.  They might be dressed in an entire Hot Topic.  They’re ghost riding a car that’s about 20 years old, which would be fine if ghost riding wasn’t already ten years old itself and the car wasn’t famous solely for being in a movie about time travel.  And yet none of that matters because the backbeat is sick.  Looks like the rest of the world is learning what Kanye did a long time ago. – DT

Finally we get some new music from The xx. It’s been way to long and I’m so stoked. This video is just a weird molecular view of colorful shit but it looks cool. If everything looked this awesome in my science classes I probably would’ve done better. Anyways it goes well with their mellow trancey vibe. And the whole pretty lights thing in this video is being carried onto the stage with them. On Monday at the Fonda Theater in L.A. (their first show in the states in almost two years) they showed that this is the vibe they’re going for. It’s heavily reliant in lighting but it looked so damn awesome. I don’t think this single will be the best on the album but it’s enough for now to wet our appetites and hold us over until September. -RC

You’ve probably heard this song already if you listen to the radio ever.  If not give it a listen and then come back to this playlist.

  So the song is about a dude who feels a little miffed about how his ex handled their breakup, feels like she overreacted a little bit, right?  WRONG.  Who would write a song about something so trivial?  Where is the emotion in slight irritation?  This song is about an insane stalker that has killed his ex-girlfriend and the video proves it.  The first lyric goes “Now and then I think of when we were together, Like when you said you felt so happy you could die” and a naked Wouter De Backer looks intensely into the camera on the word “die.”  As the song progresses a work of art consisting of fractured pieces of different flesh tones and pastels begins to form, eventually consuming Wouter (AKA Gotye).  As the camera pans out we see that this obvious metaphor has encompassed the “girlfriend” character (whose face is never fully shown) except she is mostly in brighter colors.  After she says her piece the art is erased from her body, showing she has been “erased” from the singer’s broken world.  Now she’s just somebody that he “used to know.”  Think about it. -SB

This video came out less than 24 hours ago, and you better believe if MTV still played music videos it would’ve already aired 300 times. J Lo is back, and back to using her full name, and is here to show the world that it doesn’t matter how old she is, she’s still gonna dance that giant beautiful ass off. This song is perfect for the club, mixing verses of intense rhythms to shake it hard, balanced with mellow choruses that build so you can slow grind the shit out of whomever you’re up on. It’s important to use proper grammar when discussing or doing the act of dry humping. It’s the only way to turn that into a possibility for wet humping-MG

I’ve never really been a fan of videos that consist solely of the band just standing around and playing the song – we all know you can play so just utilize the visual medium already.  So I was prepared to write this video off as boring and stupid from the get go especially since I’d never heard of Alabama Shakes and thus could not give less of a shit about watching them do their thing.  But within seconds the bluesy groove of this roots rock track had me so hooked I was able to ignore the fact that the entire video looks like it was shot on Instagram in someone’s ironically wood-paneled basement. Lead singer Brittany (at least I think that’s her name, she only says it 3 times so I can’t be entirely sure) visibly pours her heart and soul into the performance forcing me to eat my words and fully enjoy the show. The simplicity of the video is actually perfect for highlighting her voice which is so amazing I am now convinced she is the secret love child of Otis Redding and Janis Joplin. – AS

Something you never thought you’d see, let alone care about: a milk carton with a mission. Frontman Damian Auburn is one of the most talented and creative musicians alive today, responsible for acts like the Gorillas and The Good, the Bad, and the Queen. This song is pretty representative of his earlier work with Blur. The video is a story of a little milk carton who goes on a journey to find the missing man on the side of his face. It’s in the vein of the Little Toaster or The Little Engine that Could. Basically, I’m trying to justify posting a video I think is adorable. I love it when he does that dance when he sees the lady carton. I hope you will too, enjoy!-SR
